Ausroad Blast Technology (ABT) is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a grant from the METS Collaboration Fund Program to support the commercialization of its groundbreaking Metron technology. This innovative solution is set to transform drill and blast operations in Queensland’s resources sector.

Metron reimagines the traditional dipping process, replacing it with advanced technology that enhances productivity, safety, and data accuracy. This user-friendly Metron widget collects essential data to inform blast pattern design, reducing misfires and costly mistakes. “We are thrilled to receive this grant, which recognizes Metron’s potential to drive innovation in Queensland’s METS sector,” said Stefan Dunlop, Director of Ausroad Blast Technology. “The METS Collaboration Fund Program is a testament to the government’s commitment to supporting cutting-edge technologies that can make a real difference in the resources sector.” “The grant will enable us to accelerate Metron’s path to market, delivering clear benefits for the resources sector,” Dunlop added. “Our collaboration with industry and academic partners has been instrumental in shaping Metron, and we look forward to continuing this partnership to refine and commercialize the technology.” Dunlop emphasized the significance of Metron’s impact on the industry, stating, “By introducing advanced technology into this traditionally low-tech task, we’re addressing safety concerns and operational inefficiencies, providing mining teams with reliable, actionable data. This has the potential to transform drill and blast operations, reducing manual labor, improving safety, and providing accurate data to inform blast design.”

In a significant milestone, ABT recently conducted a successful live trial of Metron in January 2025, in partnership with a major mining company. The trial, which took place in a blast environment, deployed multiple units and yielded readings that exceeded key performance indicators (KPIs). This achievement underscores the effectiveness of Metron in real-world applications. With this funding, ABT will refine Metron, explore integrations with other products, and fine-tune the technology for various mining environments. This will enable a successful market entry and support Australia’s position as a global leader in mining innovation. Key benefits of Metron include:

  • Improved productivity and safety
  • Enhanced data accuracy
  • Reduced misfires and costly mistakes
  • Streamlined commercialization process

Metron is currently in advanced testing phases, with a formal product launch planned for the near future. Further updates on availability and purchasing options will be provided as testing progresses.
